Skeal brings a unique capability to the healthcare sector:
real-time analysis of one of its main areas of expenditure—catering.
Using AI that accurately measures what each guest actually eats, we transform every meal into actionable data.
This information feeds into powerful tools for nutritional prevention, menu personalization, and resident satisfaction optimization.
conducted in nursing homes and hospitals
- Tablet app for meals in the dining room and in rooms
- Web portal for monitoring food intake and performance
- AI tools for integrating customer data
in major European groups starting September 25
Conducted in a geriatric hospital unit, our pilot project with the CHPG enabled us to quickly integrate the constraints of the staff responsible for serving and clearing away meals for patients who may have lunch in the dining room one day and in their room on a meal tray the next.
Now, menu management and the meal registration process work in both cases: plate per plate in the dining room or on a meal tray all at once!
We were able to test skeal with the staff of a city center senior residence in the restaurant working close to the kitchen and the caregivers.
It was an invaluable asset to be able to test and adapt our tools to help them go from zero intake tracked to recording 40 residents meal at lunch lto recording the meals of 40 residents at lunch, losing less than 5 minutes of the total meal time!
To install the Meal recording application, you need to use a mobile tablet, whether Android or Apple, equipped with a back camera with fairly recent features and performance. In this case, it's more practical to use a magnetically-attached table stand as shown in our illustrations, which are available from many internet marketplaces.
In an other hand, you would be asked to upload and keep updated at least two files from your information system :
- your residents table,
- your menus and food items or dishes.
Menu data can be read from a single PDF to populate the dish table in Skeal. Similarly, the portion or nutritional values of each dish can be filled in by the AI, if they are missing on your side.
At Skeal, we harness the best in generative artificial intelligence models to deliver the finest results you deserve.
Thanks to our experience, we have incorporated to our recording tools, our prompt ingineering and AI fine-tuning processes, all the biases you might encounter when measuring unstructured data sources such as plates or food trays. Our results are then less dependent on what your staff will have to adapt in their field practice, or what you will have to correct visually afterwards as other solutions :
- Skeal ability to accurately measure the food portion to be eaten between 2 photos = over 87%
* The statistics come from a proof-of-concept study carried out in a French EHPAD in 2024 over a 1-week period, measuring every dish served at lunch to 30 residents. As a result, 738 dishes were analyzed.
On request, we offer motivated early-adopters the opportunity to test Skeal free of charge for a period defined together. It's important to us that you are supported in embedding your data efficiently, that we validate with you the effective installation of your tablet application and photo support, so that we can then stay in touch and examine together how you generate relevant data on the food consumption of your residents or guests. Please don't hesitate to contact us to get your free early access and support.
For groups of facilities, what's important is how to implement a new digital solution into structured, well-established practices, how to integrate it into the information system to circulate important data seamlessly with other management and intelligence tools, and finally how to deploy such an effective monitoring solution to the greater part of the organization. At Skeal, we have experience of such integration and training projects, and we also offer large companies progressive contracts based on a decreasing unit price for meals analyzed, progressing in increments according to the number of sites equipped and the number of residents/patients monitored daily.
For us at Skeal, you should pay for what you use, and we should grow with you as you expand your use of Skeal: from people to be monitored for nutrition, to every meal served for efficiency. In this way, you'd be able to take action for the well-being of your residents, while achieving a significant return on your investment in sustainability.
