A modern solution for Senior Living, Care Homes, and Hospitals to prevent malnutrition and reduce food waste through precise meal analysis and real-time alerts.
Using meal photos, our AI identifies each food component and calculates the consumed portion to enhance tracking accuracy.
No bulky equipment, no complex process. Just a simple voice command, and the meal is recorded in under 20 seconds per resident.
From meal photos or voice notes, our AI measures food intake and waste to provide precise nutritional insights.
Track nutrition daily, get notified of health risks, view performance statistics, and understand waste trends to improve efficiency.
"Too many seniors suffer from malnutrition. Because we will all be in their place one day, it is our responsibility to leverage technology for common sense: eat well to age well!
Food is the second-largest expense in healthcare facilities, yet its impact on nutrition and waste often goes unmeasured. Skeal provides an intelligent platform to tackle both challenges: improving health outcomes and sustainability."
Since 2017, Charles Juhel has worked alongside nutrition researchers to answer a key question: how can we track seniors’ food intake to prevent malnutrition? His work led him to co-author a scientific study published in the journal Nutrients in 2022, exploring how technology can improve dietary monitoring in healthcare settings.
The consumption of each meal is displayed along with nutrient levels, which can be monitored via alert Body: Monitor each meal’s consumption with detailed nutrient levels, customizable with alert thresholds.thresholds.
Monitor meal intake at a single restaurant, a facility, a region, or an entire group. From breakfast to dinner, in dining rooms or private rooms, everything you need to track is readily available.
No more subjective surveys—Skeal provides clear insights into popular and underperforming dishes, portion sizes, and necessary adjustments to minimize waste and maximize resident benefits. Receive regular reports and optimize your food costs with precise analytics.

Whether you run an independent facility, a regional group, or a multinational network, easily structure your sites and filter data with precision.
Associate consumption metrics with your own dishes and ingredients, import nutritional values, or let AI populate portions, categories, and menus automatically.
Personalize nutrition tracking by adding resident photos and physiological data to monitor progress over time.
To install the Meal recording application, you need to use a mobile tablet, whether Android or Apple, equipped with a back camera with fairly recent features and performance. In this case, it's more practical to use a magnetically-attached table stand as shown in our illustrations, which are available from many internet marketplaces.
In an other hand, you would be asked to upload and keep updated at least two files from your information system :
- your residents table,
- your menus and food items or dishes.
Menu data can be read from a single PDF to populate the dish table in Skeal. Similarly, the portion or nutritional values of each dish can be filled in by the AI, if they are missing on your side.
At Skeal, we harness the best in generative artificial intelligence models to deliver the finest results you deserve.
Thanks to our experience, we have incorporated to our recording tools, our prompt ingineering and AI fine-tuning processes, all the biases you might encounter when measuring unstructured data sources such as plates or food trays. Our results are then less dependent on what your staff will have to adapt in their field practice, or what you will have to correct visually afterwards as other solutions :
- Skeal ability to correctly recognize the food item served on photos = 85%
- Skeal ability to accurately measure the food portion to be eaten between 2 photos = 87%
* The statistics come from a proof-of-concept study carried out in a French EHPAD in 2024 over a 1-week period, measuring every dish served at lunch to 30 residents. As a result, 738 meals were analyzed.
On request, we offer motivated early-adopters the opportunity to test Skeal free of charge for a period defined together. It's important to us that you are supported in embedding your data efficiently, that we validate with you the effective installation of your tablet application and photo support, so that we can then stay in touch and examine together how you generate relevant data on the food consumption of your residents or guests. Please don't hesitate to contact us to get your free early access and support.
For us at Skeal, you should pay for what you use, and we should grow with you as you expand your use of Skeal: from people to be monitored for nutrition, to every meal served for efficiency. In this way, you'd be able to take action for the well-being of your residents, while achieving a significant return on your investment in sustainability.
For groups of facilities, what's important is how to implement a new digital solution into structured, well-established practices, how to integrate it into the information system to circulate important data seamlessly with other management and intelligence tools, and finally how to deploy such an effective monitoring solution to the greater part of the organization. At Skeal, we have experience of such integration and training projects, and we also offer large companies progressive contracts based on a decreasing unit price for meals analyzed, progressing in increments according to the number of sites equipped and the number of residents/patients monitored daily.
The minimum unit price starts at $0.09 per meal analyzed.
